Winsted-Shelton-Norwalk (8,15) ~70 mi. map As of '98 the road going from Torrington to Waterbury was silky smooth, scenic and never crowded.
But no need to head home yet... take rt. 15 (the Merrit Parkway) from the Shelton/Trumbull area towards the NY state line for a curvy (though level), high-speed ride through a
heavily tree-lined part of New England going under the occasional stone bridge. In a full year of driving through the area I never saw a cop pulling anyone over for speeding - just
remember to avoid rush hour!
As elsewhere in New England, most any back road is bound to be scenic with the main points of interest being the characteristic architecture to be found in the area. Come in autumn
and you'll be treated to the added scenery of the colorful season.
