I wanted to recommend the impressively nicknamed Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway (aka rt. 11) on the upper west hand corner of the state but found it to be neither remarkably fun to drive nor especially scenic. Even the condition of the road is nothing to write home about. My other (limited) driving experiences through this state have left me disappointed as well... the I95 stretch which is something you try to get through in a hurry and route 501 off I95 to Myrtle Beach which is, likewise, nothing special.
